Both the Electric Bass and Electric Bass 2 videos in DVD format. Electric Bass is a complete guide to grooving with a drummer in 15 styles including: funk, samba, reggae, jazz, shuffle, baiao, Latin, and rock. John provides examples in each style and discusses major influences and variations. Also included on this DVD is an extensive discussion/demonstration of technique (on the four-string bass). In Electric Bass 2, John offers insight into soloing by stressing the importance of ear-training. Includes performances of John's compositions plus a live clip with the Chick Corea Elektric Band.

valuable for intermediate+ players:

Patitucci is an excellent teacher, but not entirely comfortable in front of camera. He covers most of the basics: posture, left and right hand action, strength/flexibility/independence exercises: spiderwalking, pulloffs with other fingers locked. The harmony/theory sections assume you have a decent command of the basics.
The bonus footage of him and Steve Bailey, and of Jaco (clips from other Alfred DVDs, i think) are fun to watch.

Excellent!:

John Patitucci is not only an amazing player, but also an incredible teacher and offers insights into a myriad of essential & beyond aspects of musicianship on this DVD. Highly recommended for intermediate to advanced bass players looking to expand their playing in a big way!

Don't waste your money.:

This is not what you're thinking. This DVD is merely two hours of the "flamboyant" John Patitucci playing songs. He does not show any of his riffs to you, he plays them at full speed so it takes forever to find the pattern. This is $30.00 I'll never have back!
