Lord of the Low Frequencies:
Not many people can step out and make the bass the front instrument, but Stanley Clarke sure can. Clarke composes most of his songs with a smooth jazz feel that builds around the bass like many musicians build their music around a guitar, trumpet or sax. His unique style of snapping the strings against the fretboard gives him his signature sound. Smooth Pop:
It's and excellent chill and groove record at the same time. Somewhere between the awesome "If This Bass Could only talk" and the Clarke/Duke project records. Clarke takes you on a beautiful "Drive.":
I had bought this recording in 1993 when it was first released. I had been searching for this on CD and finally found it in a used rack at a local music store. One man's loss is another man's gain! What a treasure this CD is. I had forgotten what a great recording this is. Clarke blows you away from the first baseline on the first track, Justice's Groove (The theme from the movie "Poetic Justice")and takes you on a smooth Jazz ride through all 12 tracks. Any jazz fan worth his/her salt should, at least, give this CD a listen. Bought it at a flea market-type sale and it's probably the best bargain in music I've ever bought. "Justice's Theme" is one of those tunes you may have heard in the past but didn't really know what it was. The late George Howard lending his sax to the title track is sensational. My favorite cut is theme to "Boyz In The Hood". Believe me, it's not what you may think. Also, "What If I Forget The Champagne" has a hint of Latin to it. I... more info Tracks:
